Student Wellbeing & Support

We have staff trained in first aid, however we do not have a school nurse on site.

Please keep your child at home if they are unwell. This is best for the child and helps keep our environment as healthy as possible.  If a student becomes ill or is injured at school, they will be looked after to the best of our ability until a parent or designated emergency contact can collect them. In such instances, the school secretary will ring and ask for the student to be collected. It is essential that the school has both up to date parent contact numbers and emergency contact numbers.

As a parent if you have any concerns about your child’s social or emotional well being please contact either your child's teacher or the Principal, Deputy Principal or Assistant Principal ASAP. Concerns are best addressed as soon as they arise.

Dental Clinic

The school will use the services of a mobile clinic during the school year. However, the Dental Therapists are only here for a short period of the year and students have a dental check during this time. At other times call 0800 TALK TEETH (0800 825 583) to find your closest clinic.

Medication

Parents/Caregivers must notify the school office if their child needs to take medication at school. All medication brought to school must be delivered to the school office so it can be taken at the prescribed times under adult supervision. The exception to this is an asthma inhaler. Children in Years 0-3 need to hand their inhalers into their teachers and Years 4-6 students should carry their inhalers with them.

Public Nurse

The Public Health Nurse assists in monitoring health issues at the school by networking with social and health agencies in the community. The Public Health Nurse also works with individual children with known health problems, assesses health concerns from teacher referrals, and supports the teaching of the school health programme.

Vision & Hearing Testing

All children have their vision and hearing tested at pre-school prior to commencing school. When the testers visit (each term), opportunities are given for teachers and parents to refer older children or children who may not have been previously tested. Parents are contacted if there is concern. If parents do not wish their child to be checked, or their child is currently under specialist care, then the school needs to be informed.

Speech & Language Therapist

The Speech/Language Therapist regularly visits the school. Children are referred by the teacher in consultation with the parents. If help is to be given, programmes and home help guidelines are provided.
