We have many support agencies available to the school to assist the needs of children, where required.

ReADING RECOVERY

Reading Recovery is an early literacy intervention programme that provides one to one teaching for children who have made slow progress learning to read and write in their first year of school. Children are taught by specifically trained teacher for 30 minutes everyday for a period of 12-20 weeks.  There are many reasons why a child may find reading and writing difficult at first and the children taken into Reading Recovery are those who have made the least progress relative to their peers.  With one to one teaching the children make accelerated progress as the teacher designs each lesson for the individual child.  Pukete school has two Reading Recovery Teachers.

ESOL (English as a Second Language)

At Pukete school we provide English language tuition for children who are learning English as they are from a non-English speaking background. The ESOL literacy programme helps individuals and/or groups to achieve competence in the English language.

My background is

Corneel Van Blerk - Reading Recovery

I have been teaching part time at Pukete for  17 years, doing Reading Recovery for the past 7 years. I absolutely love seeing my students grow in confidence as they become better readers and writers!

As an artist I have been involved with teaching art in the past, as well as some school murals, production backdrops and all things arty.

My husband, children and I love tramping, movies, jetski hangouts and bbq family nights  with our dog.

Nicola Baguley - Reading Recovery

I have been a classroom teacher for 20 years. This year I have been given the exciting opportunity to become a specialist teacher and also a Reading Recovery teacher.

I absolutely love it when children experience success and see them grow in confidence and become enthusiastic about learning.

When I am at home our family enjoy walking our over enthusiastic dogs, cooking and eating dinner out. We are also trying to make our own bread and pasta but unfortunately, without too much success at times.
